After a while she took a break from performing to let her children and husband John Mahoney raise them. Eileen Ryan then returned back to acting when she appeared in The Beautiful Mind (2001). Following her success she starred alongside Russell Crowe opposite Tom Hanks in A Beautiful Mind (2001). The film won numerous Academy Awards awards, including Best Picture and Best Directing.
